How To Make Crispy Fried Onions

Crispy fried onions also called Beresta or Birista takes your dish to the next level. It's a great addition to your marinades, use it to make your curries, soups, garnish your food, add to sandwiches, etc. It's a delicious flavour enhancer.

  • Salt - 1 tab
  • Vegetable oil - for deep frying

    Peel the onions

    Thinly slice the onions.

    Add the salt.

    Massage the onions to get rid of its water.

    If you don't want to add salt, you could place the onions on paper towels for 1 hour to soak up the moisture.

    Squeeze out the water.

    Transfer to a sieve to drain any leftover liquid.

    Heat up some oil for frying.

    Fry the onions in batches.

    Stir from time to time. Fry until it's crispy and golden brown.

    It's perfectly fried, now remove from oil.

    Transfer to a paper towel lined plate.

    Spread with a fork and leave until it's completely cool.

    Transfer to a jar or plastic bag. Store in the fridge and use it within 4 months. Although, some people swear it lasts up to a year.
